I had a wonderful time going to New York for the Green Festival. It was just a fortunate day all around. Even the weather was kind as it was supposed to storm most of the day and yet the sky was as blue as ever. The warmth of the air put vigor in my step. I didn’t know what to expect when I got to the event, I was only hoping to find a good turn out with enthusiastic people of all sorts that were excited about learning Vegan facts and buying vegan products.

I could feel the energy as I entered the door, a swirl of progression, interest and positive hopes smashed into my being like the waves of an excited ocean. I felt like Super Man when his super hearing goes haywire as I listened to multiple conversations all at once of people explaining to each other how vegan products were made and how their business was helping the world to be better. The facts being told and the information being shared was beautiful as well as inspiring. I was happy to know that the human family was trying something different and taking a chance on something that can be beautiful.

I was off to asking people questions as a reporter when I first entered but I also let myself wander to see the sights in order to get the feel of what everyone else was experiencing. I met beautiful people of all kinds, strangely all of them seemed genuinely warm, kind and helpful with information. I was happy to see that these efforts of the Green Fest weren’t just about companies selling products but it was primarily about helping the people of the Earth as well as Earth itself.

Talking to people about their experiences with veganism was fun and very interesting. Some people were vegans for as long as I had been, some only tried veganism for two days. There were vegan practitioners of so many levels and degrees. Some people were regular vegans, some part time vegans, others were raw vegans. Through all of this they all shared one characteristic, they were all optimistic about the future possibilities for better health as well as a better planet.

The afternoon flow of people really began to pick up the pace as massive crowds of vegans flooded into the giant building of pier 94 . Every product or information booth was swarmed with groups of people asking green questions or buying loads of green products. It was a beautiful ocean of splashing green thought.

I began asking people whether they thought most people would stick with veganism or was it just a phase. To my surprise most people felt that new vegan practitioners would stick with the practice of eating green and being green. It felt very good to know that such things were not viewed as passing movements of the times.

The audiences for the cooking segments and fashion segments were outstanding. People were taking in all the information their minds could hold about living a green life.

By the afternoon I had asked so many questions, viewed so many vegan products and learned so much new information that my body and brain were growing very tired. I had reached the end of my journey.

What a wonderful time spent watching, speaking and existing beside amazing people. If you have the chance I do recommend attending a Green Fest in a city near you even if your not vegan. Also I will be posting more poetry & visual art very soon. Thank you kindly for reading & viewing.

Thank you for reading.

VIPASSANA (APHORISM)

On a clear night , in the lake you can see the brilliance of the full moon reflected in the water. It is there in all of its glory & yet it is not there. It is existing in the water as an image because it is perceived  and also not existing in the water because it is only an image and lacks substance. The ripples of the water tell the story of an image struggling for substance. The waves of the water cry tears of splash as they break the continuity of the image. Humans are like this, they are like flashes of lightning in the night sky, some small, some large, a few flashes unseen as though they never were and a few leaving a lasting impact , some dim and some as bright as the SUN,  ALL momentary, all struggling equally to define self in their presentation. The lightning is ceasing as soon as it begins, becoming unseen as soon as it is seen. All of the  imagery like a brief fantasy.

The Mind of ONE without fantasy, not attached to the imagery/materialism of self & without fabrication transforms itself into wisdom. Not mundane or metaphysical but transcendent.  That wisdom is left behind as love, as wise words passed from one to another, as books & poetry, as paintings on a canvas or wall. The wisdom is rain water to all humans who remain as seeds but have the potential to blossom as their own unique flowers who will in turn cast off the pollen of wisdom so that other seeds of potential will come into being. The Mind of one who makes even a portion of their being wisdom transcends the momentariness of all images & fabrications. The one who not only possesses wisdom but becomes wisdom is neither momentary nor eternal but transcendent. In that existence One helps the MANY beyond any limitations. That One truly LIVES even when they are gone.

WHAT IS GREATER (APHORISM)

He asked “What is greater than the body?” I answered “The mind”. He asked “What is greater than the mind?” I answered “A consciousness that is aware of the fabrications of the mind and frees itself from such fabrications.” He asked me “What are words?” I answered “Words are but containers, containers for meaning. Meaning exists beyond words but we would not understand meaning without words.” He asked “What are thoughts?” I answered “Thoughts are projections of words , words are produced by conceptual consciousness in order to be aware of something. Thoughts are the mind manifesting the meaning of words as projections of mental images.” He said “Finally teacher I will ask one last question.” I said “let it be asked. He went on “What is a teacher?” I answered “A true teacher is not a teacher. A lesson taught is no lesson taught. All we do here is show you what is already inside of you, already known but not understood, this is why a teacher is no teacher. A lesson is not taught for one’s own self is what comes to the personal realization of the lesson, and understanding is completely internal and based on perceptions of your own mind. So a lesson is never taught only perceived to be taught and all perceptions are but fabrications of the mind.”

This is a conversation I had with an individual whom I shared my theories and thoughts with about two years ago. It was a great time of learning and sharing. He always called me teacher with a smile, because he would joke that I had so many answers for things lol =) Have a great holiday season everyone.

Once Bodhisattvas have completely fathomed all of the particulars of the mind, they appear as Buddhas themselves and liberate beings by explaining to them that what they perceive is nothing but their own mind and that external existence does not exist, thus enabling them to transcend such views as existence and non existence. – Parts taken from the Lankavatara Sutra Translation by Red Pine, Quote used for educational purposes.

I would like to note that the quote above is meant for Bodhisattva’s, Shravakas and students of the highest levels of Mahayana or Hinayana Buddhism who are ready to understand that all things and non things are but perceptions of the mind or repository consciousness. Other levels of Buddhism do not cover this exclusively as this is a difficult teaching to grasp and entry level practitioners who grasp a hold of that which can be tasted, touched, seen, heard or smelled have a difficult time letting go of the empirical world. All teachings of Buddhism from the Heart Sutras, Platform Sutras etc are leading the student to this one teaching that all things, all Dharmas are but perceptions of one’s own mind and should be transcended in order to obtain liberation as well as truth (Truth which is called Buddha knowledge or the wisdom body). Karma at this stage is taught to be the product of beginningless habit energies accumulated by the grasping of projections of one’s own mind. Thus Karma’s are projections of one’s own mind and should also be transcended leading one to liberation. I will cover this more in future postings. May peace and goodness be with you fair readers. – Mikial Millard

According to what I teach , nirvana means fully understanding that it is nothing but the perception of one’s own mind and is not something that exists externally and that it transcends the four possibilities. It is seeing what is real without falling prey to dualisitic projections that are perceptions of one’s own mind. Rather it is letting everything go in favor of attaining the personal realization of Buddha enlightenment, advancing to the higher stages and the samadhi of the illusory of the tathagata stage, and it transcends the MIND, THE WILL, and conceptual consciousness. What is Nirvana is neither a result or a cause, and what is neither a result nor cause has no objective support, and what has no objective support is beyond the reach of all fabrications. The ultimate TRUTH includes no sequence of stages, it is the forbearance of non-arising. Nothing but mind, no projections are the seventh and eighth level but the Buddha stage is supreme.

Gautama Buddha – Lankavatara Sutra, part of this quote comes from the Red Pine Translation of this important Mahayana text.

If you do goodness for the benefit of all beings then I would consider you a Bodhisattva and everyone that is of goodness can become a Buddha. No matter what path you walk, what your religion or belief system , if you are of goodness, right thinking, right minded and exhibit right deeds then you have my full support. See you after vacation — Mikial

However many beings there are in whatever realms of being might exist, whether they are born from an egg or born from a womb, in whatever conceivable realm of being one might conceive of beings, I shall Liberate them all. And although I thus liberate countless beings , not a single being is liberated.

quote by Siddhartha Gautama Buddha

It is your own acceptance of knowledge or freedom from illusion that liberates and in that I feel although you may learn from a Guruji, Yogini, priest, preacher and etc you are liberating yourself. Your mind, consciousness, soul or spirit leads you down the path that you walk and so all liberation or non liberation is of your own doing. Your fate is a choice that you make, and your choice alone. ——Mikial

49 Day Meditation Challenge Updated

I was challenged by a friend to meditate longer and have pushed the meditation time of the challenge up to 40 minutes per day. This is going to be very fun and enlightening.

It is said that the Buddha meditated for 49 days when he achieved full enlightenment. Granted I have to sleep and have responsibilities I will attempt to meditate for at least 40 minutes each day for 49 days straight. I am not a Buddhist but I do have a great respect for Buddha. So Challenge accepted. This is day 1. I will make quick blogs every week on this subject to document my meditation journey. Follow this blog to come along on the journey.
